By the time Audrey was 16, she had moved 10 times. No, she wasn't an army brat. Instead, her mom bailed on the family and her dad became a part-time drug dealer. Audrey knew her dad wasn't very good in this trade since he had just started two years ago, but it didn't help that he never failed to leave open ends. The police found him constantly, but he couldn't leave Audrey on her own, so they never stayed in one town for too long. Sure the money was great, but was this all worth it? Let's start from the beginning.
Audrey was a happy-go-lucky kind of girl. She lived in the same town for 14 years, had a great social life, excelled in school, and had the cutest guy in her sight, Cameron. He was two years older than her, but everyone knew they were going to be a thing some time soon. She wasn't very close to either of her parents since they were lawyers, so she was never too worried about how things would turn out with Cameron. Audrey was getting ready for her first day of her Freshman year when she heard her parents yelling louder than ever. They argued about little things often, but it never had gotten to the point of breaking beloved vases. By 7:30am, her parents, Bob and Christiana, had gotten so loud, she ran out her front door and over to her neighbors house. "Can I have a ride to school?" She asked with a nervous smile on her face. "My parents have to get to work in a hurry and can't take me any time soon. It's my first day of high school, Mrs. White!" She had to lie. What else was she to do? Tell Mrs. White her parents were screaming at one another? Thankfully, her neighbor bought the lie. "Sure, my dear." Said Mrs. White. "I'd be delighted." On the drive to school, they began talking about what classes Audrey was taking and about Cameron. Audrey was rather shy when it came to him, so she mainly focused on school. "I was able to be placed in Algebra II and Cooking 1A." Audrey said with nervousness in her voice. "I'm not quite sure how I'll do with the cooking class since all I've been allowed to make myself was cereal.." She trailed off, hoping Mrs. White would say something about herself. Luckily, she did, "Oh honey, when I was your age.." She began, "I didn't even know what a mixing bowl was. Now, I bake almost every day." Mrs. White chuckled. Audrey couldn't help but laugh as well. Not only because of the small story, but also because of Mrs. White's laugh. It boomed with enthusiasm, but still sounded like a duck trying to find the rest of its kind. By the time they reached the school yard, Audrey was enjoying Mrs. Whites company and jokes. She even offered to help Audrey with her cooking class any time she was stuck. They waved goodbye and Audrey was off to her first class: Cooking 1A. Out of all the friends she had, none of them were in this class. Well, anyone other than Cameron. She gave him a small smile and sat down in the first chair she could find. As the bell rang, the teacher stepped in. His name was Mr. Lane. He was a tall man, slightly over weight, wore round framed glasses, and had shaggy brown hair. He started the class off with the cooking basics. "Since this is a school classroom, we won't be using any sharp knives. Instead, everything is pre-cut and I'll be taking everything home to cook. Now, here are some of the class rules you'll need to follow!" Audrey could already feel that she was bound to hate this idea of cooking at school. Thankfully, Cameron was very far behind her and couldn't talk to her, for she was irritated beyond belief. The day went on and most of her classes were introductions and tours. By the time it hit 3pm, the last bell had rung for the day. Audrey was invited to her friend Shela's house after school. Audrey quickly texted her mom and left with Shela. The girls didn't do much while they were together. For the most part, they gossiped about their new teachers and fellow classmates, painted their nails, and watched some Netflix. When Audrey's dad texted her to come home, it was 7pm. Shela's mom drove both of the girls to Audrey's house, but only dropped Audrey off. The minute Audrey pulled up to her house, she sensed something was off.
